The right process directly affects price and lead time. The rule is simple: is the main shape rotational or prismatic?
CNC turning
Shafts, bushes, flanges and pins — parts symmetric about an axis — are much faster on a lathe. With a C-axis lathe, keyways and cross holes are made in the same setup.
CNC milling
Plates, housings and brackets — parts with flat faces and pockets — are milled. 5-axis machining finishes complex angled faces in one setup.
