How to prepare drawing files for a CNC quote

October 20, 2026 · 4 min read

In contract manufacturing, the speed and accuracy of a quote depend largely on the files you send. To help our engineers understand your part in one go, we recommend three components.

1. 3D model (STEP)

STEP/STP opens in every CAD system and carries the geometry without loss. You can also send SolidWorks, Inventor or CATIA files, but adding a STEP speeds things up. The dimensions of STEP files uploaded to our site are extracted automatically.

2. Dimensioned drawing (PDF)

The 3D model describes the geometry, but tolerances, surface roughness, threads and heat treatment are on the drawing. Always specify critical dimensions and fits (e.g. Ø20 H7).

3. A short note

  • Where and how will the part be used?
  • Do you need prices for several quantities (10 / 50 / 100)?
  • Special requirements such as coating colour or hardness

If you only have a sample part or a sketch, upload a photo and add a note; our engineers will call you if needed.

Is your drawing ready?

Our average quote time 2 h 30 min

Quick Quote

If your drawing is ready, your quote is ready in 2 h 30 min on average.

The average quote time is calculated from our previous quotes. Time outside working hours is not counted.
